Later on that day.

Jack and Ianto were sat up in Jack’s office after the rest of the team have gone home. Jack looked at Ianto and then smiled. “When do you want to phone your parents?”
Ianto sighed after knowing that was going to be the question he asked him next. “Soon I think if we haven’t got long to go.” Ianto smiled. “I wish we could just round there and explain things to them.”
Jack raised an eyebrow. “Well that would make interesting conversation.” Jack pointed at Ianto’s baby bump. “You know we could, but it would mean retcon again.”
Ianto shook his head. “No jack I think we’ll stick with the phone call.”
Jack passed Ianto the phone. “What’s it going to be surrogate or adopt?”
Ianto shrugged. “I don’t have a clue, adopting I think cos mum will want to see the surrogate mother.”
Jack smiled at Ianto. “It’s up to you babe.”
Ianto picked up the phone and dialled the number, and slightly smiled at jack resting a hand on his bump. Someone answered the phone.
“hello?” Said a small woman’s voice down the phone into Ianto’s ear.
“Mum? Its Ianto” Ianto said down the phone putting it onto speaker phone.
“Ianto bunny.” Jack giggled a little.
“Yeah it’s me here, Jack’s here too. We’ve got some news for you.”
“oh hi Jack.” Ianto’s mother called down the phone. “oh sorry bunny u go ahead with your good news.”
Ianto took a deep breath and then paused for a bit, Jack placed his hand on Ianto’s shoulder and smiled at him. “Mum, um your going to have that grandchild you always wanted.” The phone went silent. “Mum? You still there?”
Suddenly there was a shriek of joy down the phone, Ianto and Jack laughed as they imagined the sight of Ianto’s mum dancing around the kitchen at the good news.
“I’m still here honey, that’s great news” Then his mother started to cry silently on the phone.
“Aww mum don’t cry you’ll get me started.”
Jack looked at Ianto’s eyes and sure enough there were large tears forming, Jack gave him a sweet smile and then wiped the tears away gently.
“Bunny, how is it going to happen?”
Ianto swallowed back the lump in his throat. “Um …” He paused for a second, he didn’t want to tell her that her grandchild was going to be someone else’s that they had adopted, when she had wished for him and Lisa to have a baby of their own one day. “A surrogate kind of thing.”
“aww honey, who’s your surrogate?”
Ianto looked jack in the eye, and Jack frowned a little at the next thing Ianto said. “Me, it’s a new technology thing” Jack’s eye widened and his mouth almost dropped to the floor.
Jack laughed and took over the conversation. “What he means is we like to treat this as if it’s one of us giving birth to it instead of a surrogate, its a kind of a mental thing going on.” Jack winced at the excuse he had used thinking how stupid it had sounded once he had said it.
“I understand Jack.” Jack nodded slightly and then frowned.
“You do?”
“Yeah I know what bunny can be like, when he’s been drinking, you don’t have to make accuses for him” the woman laughed down the phone. “But Jack there is a baby isn’t there?”
Jack looked at Ianto. “yeah definitely, don’t worry about that, I’m going to have to go now, have a few words with bunny” Jack looked at Ianto and shook his head slowly.
“Ok jack, say goodbye to bunny for me”
Jack finished saying goodbye to Ianto’s mother, clicked the phone off and turned round to face Ianto then sighed.
Ianto frowned at Jack. “why did you do that?”
Ianto shrugged. “I thought it was a good idea”
Jack smiled a little. “I know you want to tell her but you can’t”
“What would you know Jack!” Ianto walked away from Jack and out of his office
